Using CRM to Align Sales and Marketing

Henley July 28, 2021 2 min read

A business has many goals and one of those goals is to increase sales. Marketing activities focus on large groups of people, whereas sales focuses on a specific group of people, namely, the customers. Marketing and sales activities work hand-in-hand to improve brand image. The two activities are fundamentally similar, though. Both rely on persuasive methods to persuade customers to buy a product or service. In addition, both entail contacting leads.

The primary difference between the two functions is the focus on the customer. In sales, the focus is on the individual and persuading them to buy a product, whereas in marketing, the focus is on creating value for the product. Marketing includes a variety of efforts, including advertising, promotional activities, and other tactics. The goal of each is to create more sales and revenue, and both should work together. The key to a successful business is integrating sales and marketing into one cohesive strategy.

When sales and marketing work together, they fill gaps each other can’t address. When the two functions work together, they produce better content, engage in more meaningful conversations, and create brand ambassadors for the company. In addition to aligning the two departments, salespeople should use CRM to track their activities and results. A CRM solution can be customized to the specific needs of each team. Once the alignment process is complete, it’s time to begin building the business.

Marketing and sales are complementary functions in any business. While sales focuses on selling products, marketing focuses on attracting and retaining customers. They work hand-in-hand to promote a product or service to potential customers. And while sales and marketing do differ in many ways, there are many similarities between the two departments. Marketing is more customer-focused and has a broader scope than sales. And sales, on the other hand, uses media channels and personal connections to reach customers.

Marketing and sales should become a part of a business’s daily activities. Whether it’s an online business or a brick-and-mortar store, marketing and sales must become a part of everyday life for the company. Businesses must constantly assess their sales and marketing activities to learn from their mistakes and improve. Developing a positive relationship with existing and prospective clients can help the business grow. They also set the foundation for the continued success of the company.

A successful marketing and sales strategy is based on a clear understanding of the target market. Marketing understands the needs and desires of its customers, while sales understands the demographics of those customers. Having a shared understanding will help sales and marketing align efforts. They will be more efficient in delivering information that addresses the needs of customers and prospects. With this shared knowledge, the marketing team can be more effective in creating a cohesive strategy for the business.
